TPG Telecom, Singapore's fourth telco, has received IMDA approval to conduct a 5G NSA market trial using its existing spectrum holdings. The trial signals TPG's continued network innovation and investment. The much-anticipated regulatory support provides the opportunity for TPG customers to experience the early benefits of 5G and will make 5G available in Singapore at lower prices.
"Whilst this good news comes a little later than we originally hoped, we are excited to have been given the opportunity to showcase our network’s enhanced capabilities, which will also include the injection of 5G mmWave high-speed spectrum into use. Our customers will be thrilled to access high-speed data on the TPG network at an affordable cost," said Mr Richard Tan, CEO of TPG Singapore.
"Our network is the newest in the market and, as such, is readily upgradable. We are continually looking to expand our capabilities to meet the growing demand for advanced mobile connectivity in the consumer sector. The new 5G services are designed to stimulate active use of our network and, when we introduce commercial services later, we intend to greatly expand the benefits and value."
Commencing immediately, TPG’s customers will automatically experience 5G benefits progressively across TPG’s network when using 5G NSA compatible mobile devices currently available in the market. These include Huawei Mate 40 and the following Vivo 5G smartphones models: Y72 and X60 Pro. The detection of compatible devices and 5G NSA service enablement are done without user intervention. Key buildings such as Changi Airport Jewel, The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands, PLQ Mall, VivoCity and Great World City are among the first to be upgraded to support 5G NSA services.
TPG is known for bundles that start at $5, which can include unlimited calls to local mobiles. Additionally, all TPG higher value plans incorporate free roaming data to India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, and Taiwan.
