The Digital Economy Summit (DES) 2023, Asia's premier innovation and technology event, kicked off on April 13– 14 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC). The two-day summit, which is jointly organized by the HKSAR Government and Cyberport, brings together influential leaders from business, academia, government and technology to discuss the role that technological advancements play in accelerating the creation of resilient and future-proof digital societies.

Inspiring regional and international aspirations for a brighter digital future is the goal of DES 2023. Over the course of two days, eight specialist forums with the overarching topic “Emerging with Resilience: Fostering a Smarter Future” feature more than 100 renowned worldwide speakers who share their ideas.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Mr. Dong Chen, Deputy Minister, The Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in the HKSAR; Ms. Shumin Cao, Deputy Director, Cyberspace Administration of China; and Professor Sun Dong, Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry of the HKSAR Government.

A Smarter Future Driven by Innovation and Technology

DES 2023 offered delegates many opportunities to learn how technological advancements are defining the new post-pandemic normal and fostering more sustainable communities and competitive enterprises.

The Visionary Forum, which had as its theme "Re-create Future Sustainable Societies," was a much-anticipated feature of DES 2023. Here, international industry leaders discussed the effects and possibilities of numerous technologies. The leaders spoke on a wide range of subject matter, including the advancement of digital government, the creation of new immersive viewing experiences made possible by cloud-based systems at international sports events, low-carbon development and the transformation of smart cities powered by digital innovation, as well as the most recent advancements in autonomous driving technology.

The use of technology in the digital economy was discussed by experts and attendees. While the Smart City Forum, organized by the Smart City Consortium, focused on how Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA) are setting the standard for developing and advancing smart city developments, the Chambers Forum, supported by six major chambers of commerce, addressed how businesses are integrating traditional and new economies to drive business transformation and stay ahead of the curve.

Along with specialty forums, an experience zone has been established to display the most recent technical solutions from partners, start-ups, and other members of the Cyberport community, providing participants the chance to explore modern solutions first-hand. Applications are focused on the digital economy, smart cities, smart transportation and new industrialization, which are in line with the Hong Kong I&T Development Blueprint's key objectives. The solutions presented cover a wide range of topics, including mobility, living, food, health and other relevant areas.

The FinTech Forum, Beyond Web3 Forum, Smart Mobility Forum and New Industrialization Forum were four expert panels that took place on the second day of DES 2023, exploring unique categories that are likely to have a significant influence on the future of the digital economy.
