India’s Telecom Minister, Jyotiraditya Scindia, has announced that the government plans to disclose the regulations of the new Telecom Act within the next 180 days.

The Union Minister for Telecom emphasized the importance of having a firewall in place to protect the country, its citizens, and businesses, stating that the government is committed to ensuring this protection.

"We have notified the new Indian Telecom Act; the best pages of a 130-year-old act, has been consisted to the flames of history and a new robust, modern act late last month has been notified. I commit to you that within 180 days, which is our deadline, we will have each and every rule notified so that all of you can walk down that path with complete confidence that the government stands by your side," expounded Scindia.

Last year, the central government enacted the Telecommunications Act aimed at amending and consolidating laws pertaining to the development, expansion, and operation of telecommunication services and networks, following its passage through parliament.

Following an official notification issued last month, certain provisions of the act have now been enacted into law. These include provisions allowing the government to assume control over telecom services provided by both public and private operators in cases involving security concerns, public order, or the prevention of offenses.

The Minister also noted that alongside the country's fastest 5G rollout, they are now focusing on advancing 6G technology. The Minister stated that efforts are underway to advance 6G technology, with plans to secure approximately 127 global patents and establish 100 5G test labs. The Union Minister also highlighted another area of success: the manufacturing of telecom equipment.

"The production of telecom has been a huge success, with close to 3400 crores worth of investment, 50,000 crores worth of sales and 10,500 crores worth of exports,” he noted.

He also mentioned that “almost 17,800 new jobs” have been added across India.
