Nokia has been given a long-term, multi-billion-dollar extension deal by Bharti Airtel (Airtel) to install 4G and 5G equipment in important cities and states in India.

Under the agreement, Nokia will set up equipment from its advanced 5G AirScale portfolio, including base stations, baseband units, and the latest Massive MIMO radios, all powered by its energy-efficient ReefShark System-on-Chip technology. These solutions will improve Airtel's network with excellent 5G capacity and coverage, as well as support its network development.

Additionally, Nokia will upgrade Airtel's existing 4G network with multiband radios and baseband equipment, which works alongside 5G. Airtel will also use Nokia's MantaRay Network Management for smart network monitoring and management using AI-based tools for digital deployment, optimization, and technical support.

Nokia has worked with Airtel for more than 20 years, supplying 2G, 3G, 4G, and 5G network equipment. Their collaboration has recently grown with the launch of the Green 5G Initiative, which aims to improve the energy efficiency of Airtel's network and reduce carbon emissions in line with the company's emission reduction goals.
