China ramped up efforts to combat telecom fraud, corruption, and crimes against minors in 2024 while maintaining a strong stance against severe violent crimes, according to reports released by the Supreme People's Court (SPC) and the Supreme People's Procuratorate (SPP).

The SPC reported handling 34,898 cases last year, with 32,539 concluded, marking a 65.5% and 82.2% year-over-year (YoY) increase, respectively. Meanwhile, the SPP handled around 4.1 million cases, approving the arrest of 753,000 criminal suspects and filing public prosecutions against 1.63 million individuals.

Crackdown on telecom fraud was a key highlight, with prosecutors handling 78,000 related cases in 2024, reflecting a 53.9% increase from the previous year. One high-profile case involved 39 members of a Myanmar-based criminal group targeting Chinese nationals, with Zhejiang prosecutors acting on the SPP's guidance.
