Maxis has partnered with Blueshark and EV Connection Sdn. Bhd. (EVC), operator of JomCharge charging network, to accelerate e-mobility adoption in Malaysia.

The company signed a memorandum of understanding with Blueshark and EVC, witnessed by YB Senator, Tengku Datuk Seri Utama Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry, Malaysia.

“We are delighted to collaborate with Blueshark and EVC, which are well-known names within the EV sector. As a leading integrated telco, we have the right capabilities to meet the needs of smart mobility businesses end-to-end. We look forward to powering EV technologies and innovation through our enterprise solutions, including IoT, cloud, managed services, 4G and 5G connectivity,” said Prateek Pashine, Chief Enterprise Business Officer of Maxis.

Driving EV Ecosystem Technology Adoption

Under the partnership, Maxis will provide 4G and 5G network access to Blueshark and EVC to support their electric vehicle (EV) assets and infrastructure. Moreover, the company will collaborate with both parties on innovative digital solutions to drive EV ecosystem technology adoption. Maxis will first create an ESG dashboard to allow Blueshark electric scooter users to calculate and analyze their carbon footprint.

Jin Chan, Group COO (ASEAN) of Blueshark Ecosystem Sdn. Bhd., expressed his excitement regarding this venture with Maxis, “Blueshark’s edge is in our app-to-bike connectivity; and with constant two-way data flows, our customers can monitor and track their vehicle stats in real time, seamlessly and instantly. This means that our app needs to always be connected and lag-free to provide riders with an always-on experience. Thanks to Maxis, we are now able to power up our robust, connected ecosystem and IoV (Internet of Vehicles) solutions to their fullest potential for the benefit of our riders.”

The dashboard will utilize Maxis’ end-to-end capabilities including, cloud, data analytics and IoT. Meanwhile, its 4G and 5G networks will connect Blueshark's fleet, ensuring secure and dependable dashboard data collection with full API integration.

Maxis will also provide network connectivity to Blueshark’s battery swap stations, across Malaysia, to help them analyze and manage their battery inventory.

“Being one of the major players in the EV industry, we identified three key challenges: connection reliability, ease of management, and cost competitiveness. Maxis addresses these pain points with their IoT connectivity, providing us with reliable coverage and connectivity, along with an IoT analytics platform; supporting our JomCharge charging network at best value,” noted Ir Lee Yuen How, Managing Director, EVC.

The benefits of this collaboration extend beyond mere connectivity, as Maxis aims to power EV technologies and innovation holistically. By combining their strengths, Maxis, Blueshark, and EVC create a synergistic ecosystem that addresses the end-to-end needs of the e-mobility sector. This not only enhances the efficiency of charging network operations but also contributes to the advancement of smart and sustainable transportation solutions in Malaysia.
