Samsung Electronics have selected their replacement for the outgoing vice chairman and CEO Kwon Oh-hyun, who surprised many industry analysts following his shock announcement that he was stepping down from his position with the South Korean conglomerate. It has been formally announced that President of Samsung’s semiconductor business, Kim Ki-nam will take over from March next year, and it was also disclosed that he will head up the device unit.

iPhone-maker Apple is being sued by a Japanese software company over its ‘animoji’ feature in its latest iPhone X smartphone. The Tokyo-based company Emonster took Apple to a federal court in San Francisco, saying it holds the US trademark on the term ‘animoji’ and that Apple’s use of the word is a blatant infringement.
Nokia released its Q3 financial results for 2017 showing net sales of €5.5 billion for the quarter compared to €6 billion for the same period last year. The company reported a 7 percent year-on-year sales decrease in Q3. Nokia CEO Rajeev Suri said the company’s patent licensing business was the “clear highlight” of the quarter.

Chinese telecom equipment provider and smartphone maker Huawei aims to take on Amazon and Alibaba as a global provider of public cloud services, the company said in April. Edward Zhou, Huawei’s VP of Global Public Affairs, reiterated this to Telecom Review recently, saying Huawei can provide more trustworthy cloud services based on its legacy telecom experience.
