Ericsson's Board of Directors today announced that Hans Vestberg steps down as President and CEO and member of the Board of Directors of Ericsson with immediate effect. Jan Frykhammar, executive vice president and CFO, will assume the CEO position until a new CEO is in office.

The US Government's development finance institution, the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), has commenced the initial disbursement of a $250 million loan to Apollo Towers Myanmar to fund the rollout of its mobile tower network. It is OPIC's first financing in Myanmar.

IDC Asia/Pacific has released as report assessing Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) organizations' maturity and progress in their digital transformation initiatives, saying it shows Asia/Pacific organizations to be still at a nascent stage of digital transformation, with 45.4 percent of enterprises surveyed operating at the basic ad hoc level (ie digital resisters) and yet to establish basic digital transformation capabilities and adopt digital solutions systematically.

NEC Corporation and its Indian subsidiary, NEC Technologies India Private Limited (NTI), have set up a center in India dedicated to the support of open source software (OSS).

'The OSS Technology Center aims to strengthen the organizational structure for supporting global enterprises in building systems based on OSS, to reinforce collaboration with international OSS vendors and to provide rapid technical support to users who construct systems operated globally using OSS,' NEC said.

Cisco has published the latest edition of the Cisco Visual Networking Index, forecasting global IP traffic to have a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 22 percent over the next five years as more than one billion new Internet users grow the global Internet community from three billion in 2015 to 4.1 billion by 2020.
