Australian telecommunications company Vocus Group is building a submarine cable to replace the slower South East Asia–Middle East–Western Europe (SEA-Me-We 3) cable network, the only submarine link between the city of Perth in Western Australia and Singapore, which is near full capacity. The new cable will link Perth to Singapore via Jakarta in Indonesia as well as Christmas Island.

In a global first, Indian telecom provider Bharti Airtel successfully deployed three radio technologies (GSM, UMTS, LTE) on the 900MHz band within an 8.8MHz spectral bandwidth by using Huawei’s CloudAIR solution to deliver a superior 4G experience to its customers. Bharti Airtel is India’s largest mobile operator.

Spark, New Zealand’s largest telecom provider is building a long-range (LoRa) network to enable Internet of Things (IoT) in New Zealand’s most populated urban areas, switching on sites in Christchurch, Wellington, Hamilton and Auckland in time for the New Year.

Nokia and China Unicom are to offer Nokia Flexi Zone small cells and an AirScale low power radio head for deployment in 31 provinces in China. This will give China Unicom's subsidiaries new flexibility as they densify busy city 3G and 4G LTE networks and further enhance performance in suburban and rural locations.

Japanese telecommunications provider NTT DOCOMO announced that it succeeded in 12-channel MMT (MPEG Media Transport) transmissions of 8K video using 5G mobile technology during a test conducted on November 1 at its Yokosuka R&D center in collaboration with Sharp Corporation.
