Infomedia CEO, Michael Tomlins has claimed that regulation and industry maturity remain the key challenges preventing the mobile payments sector from scaling. Telecom Review Asia Pacific managed to secure an exclusive interview with the CEO of the UK-based firm in an effort to understand and explore some of the major trends that are emerging within the mobile payments industry. Tomlin outlined the company’s vision for the MENA and APAC regions and offered some predictions on how the market will evolve.

India’s largest telecommunications service provider, Bharti Airtel, has expanded its Voice over LTE (VoLTE) services in India, launching in Kolkata. Airtel VoLTE, which works over 4G, will enable customers across the city to “enjoy HD quality voice calls” with faster call set up time, the company said in a statement. Customers can call any mobile, landline network using the service.

Digital Realty, a leading global provider of data center, colocation and interconnection solutions, announced a partnership with Singapore Internet Exchange (SGIX) to provide local peering at Digital Realty's Singapore data center facilities in Jurong West and Loyang East.

Norwegian telecom group Telenor's operator subsidiary in Thailand, Total Access Communication PLC (dtac), announced that its CEO Lars-Åke Norling has decided to leave the company to pursue new opportunities. The news came after dtac faced a major setback when it was announced that a much anticipated spectrum auction was delayed again.

Myanmar’s fourth mobile operator, MyTel, the brand name of Telecom International Myanmar Company, has launched 4G services in the Asian nation, and plans to expand its network to all 15 states and regions within a month, according to Myanmar Times. MyTel began distributing SIM cards in Nay Pyi Taw, eastern Bago and Kayin State earlier in March.

PCCW Global, the international operating division of HKT, Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, has agreed with Mauritius Telecom to construct and maintain a high speed submarine cable connecting the Indian Ocean Islands of Rodrigues and Mauritius which will vastly improve connectivity for Rodrigues.
