WhatsApp is reportedly extending its ‘Chat Lock’ feature (initially introduced for Android and iOS) to the web client. This feature, not initially available on the web, adds an extra layer of security by allowing users to lock individual chats.

A leaked image revealed a padlock icon on the redesigned sidebar, indicating where locked messages may be accessed. While the functionality details remain undisclosed, the Android and iOS versions utilize passcodes, fingerprints, and face ID for authentication. For the web client, password or passkey options might be available.

WhatsApp Web is also set to receive a new sidebar design and a dark theme color scheme for reduced eye strain.

Additionally, upcoming features include passkey support for iOS and nearby file-sharing for Android, with privacy maintained through end-to-end encryption.
