Ooredoo Myanmar and ZTE Corporation have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to collaborate on 5G network development. The collaboration is one of many components of Ooreedoo Group’s network modernization program and will ensure Myanmar is ready for the “Evolution of 5G”.
This is the first partnership of its kind in Myanmar with ZTE, demonstrating Ooredoo’s commitment to support Myanmar’s digitalization journey.
Mr. Alok Verma, Acting CEO of Ooredoo Myanmar and Mr. YanChangzhi, CEO of ZTE Myanmar signed the MoU at Ooredoo Myanmar’s headquarters, with senior executives from both companies in attendance.
This partnership will leverage the technical expertise of ZTE Corporation and support Ooredoo Myanmar’s efforts to provide a world-class telecom infrastructure for the people of Myanmar.

Ooredoo is the first telecom operator in Myanmar to launch initiatives towards 5G development, recognizing the potential of 5G, which will unlock the next generation of wireless technology with high speeds, ultra-low latency and greater capacities, unleashing new possibilities in mobility, manufacturing, healthcare, transportation and several other industries. This is also in line with our vision of enriching people’s digital lives. We look forward to working with ZTE Corporation on this exciting new initiative.”
o kick off the partnership, Ooredoo Myanmar and ZTE Corporation will be considering potential test environments to deploy Ooredoo’s 5G network. The test environments will be used to evaluate the performance of the 5G network and technology to ensure that best-in-class service is achieved once the network is operational.

Ooredoo made history when it became the first operator in the world to launch a live 5G network in Qatar in May 2018. Ooredoo has been gearing up to test this new generation of 5G wireless technology since 2014. Over the next few months, it plans to reach more world-first milestones by testing 5G mobile and networks through user trials and commercial launches across Ooredoo Opcos around the world.
