The Vietnamese technological firm FPT is preparing to construct a cable that will link Vietnam to the undersea Asia Link Cable.

The corporation will invest 30% of the anticipated US$87 million cost from its own funds and borrow the remaining funds from banks. In less than nine years, the company intends to recover its investment.

The 18 terabits per second (tbps) Asia Link Cable spans 6,000 kilometers and connects Hong Kong, mainland China, the Philippines, Brunei and Singapore. According to FPT Telecom, a connecting station will be built in Da Nang City. The SJC2 cable will be installed by the state-owned telecom company Vietnam Posts and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) in 2024.

Additionally, Viettel has announced an undersea cable with a cost of US$290 million, a length of 9,800 kilometers and a capacity of more than 140 tbps — approximately three times the capacity of the Asia Pacific Gateway.
