Minister François-Philippe Champagne arrived in Seoul on May 16th with the aim of strengthening Canada's leadership in the green economy. Through fruitful discussions and significant partnerships, he highlighted Canada's commitment to sustainable innovation and economic growth, particularly in enhancing supply chains for electric vehicles (EVs), hydrogen and critical minerals, as well as exploring opportunities in the EV battery ecosystem.

The day began with a meeting with Hyundai Motor Company, a global automotive leader. Both Canada and Hyundai affirmed their commitment to strengthening the aforementioned supply chains for EVs, hydrogen and critical minerals, establishing a strategic alliance to position Canada as a preferred supplier of sustainable and eco-friendly solutions.

Continuing the focus on electric mobility, Minister Champagne engaged with Solus Advanced Materials, a prominent Canadian partner and leader in the next generation of EV battery ecosystems. The discussions centered on fostering innovation, research and development to drive growth in this pivotal sector.

Recognizing the crucial role of aerospace and defense in innovation and economic progress, Minister Champagne met with the Hanwha Group. This marked the beginning of discussions on potential collaborations to create employment opportunities and stimulate innovation within Canada. The objective is to leverage the expertise and capabilities of both nations to strengthen these industries and consolidate Canada's position as a global leader.
