China will accelerate the construction of virtual private networks in the 5G industry and enhance the country's 5G application scenarios, according to the Minister of Industry and Information Technology Jin Zhuanglong on Sunday at the opening forum of the 31st PT Expo China in Beijing.

China will reportedly work on improving the coverage of high-quality networks like 5G and gigabit optical networks by continuously optimizing the infrastructure layout and setting up a series of 5G factories, Jin added during the industry exhibition event.

Ke Ruiwen, the chairman of China Telecom, stated that the company has been establishing an all-optical network, with gigabit optical networks currently covering over 300 cities.

Another telecom giant in the country, China Mobile, said it has led almost 200 international standards for 5G and applied for more than 4,100 patents.

According to China Tower, the company has made more than 200,000 communication towers smarter by providing them with 5G and artificial intelligence.

China is making significant and steady progress in constructing its 5G network. There are a total of 2.73 million 5G base stations in the country, as of the end of April 2023.
