Offering Multi-Gigabit Speeds
This technology is a crucial step towards Globe's goal: to offer multi-gigabit speeds. By surpassing the capabilities of the current 10G PON technology, 50G PON offers improved efficiency, lower latency, and ensures the diverse needs of residential and business customers are met. The pilot involved thorough testing of throughput, end-to-end latency, and jitter, and demonstrated the capability of high-bandwidth applications such as 8K streaming, cloud gaming, augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR), Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR), and high-definition (HD) video conferencing.
James Lim, VP for Broadband Service Planning and Engineering at Globe Telecom, stated, “Globe is dedicated to providing Filipinos with the best internet experience possible, and the advancement in 50G PON technology is a crucial part of our forward-thinking approach to broadband connectivity. This achievement brings us closer to ensuring our network can support the changing needs of our customers, now, and in the future.”
