ZTE Corporation, a major international provider of telecommunications, enterprise and consumer technology solutions for the Mobile Internet, today announced that it has become the first vendor to conduct the 26 GHz high-frequency field test in the second phase of China's 5G test in Huairou, Beijing.
ZTE took the lead in completing the 26 GHz high-frequency field test of its 5G new radio (NR) pre-commercial base station, which delivered an excellent performance in interconnecting with the instruments and chips from a number of manufacturers in the industry. In addition, ZTE also applied to do official tests for the frequency bands greater than 40 GHz in its Shanghai R&D centre, indicating a rapid increase in China's key technological capabilities for high frequency bands.
The 5G test is led by China, and organized and implemented by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group. The test group involves the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), China Mobile, China Telecom, China Unicom, and DOCOMO. China's 5G test can be divided into three phases: key technology verification, technical solution verification, and system solution verification. The technical solution verification in the second phase of China's 5G test focuses on verifying technical solutions in continuous wide coverage; high capacity (low/high frequency); low delay and high reliability; low power consumption, and hybrid scenarios. China started to build the 5G test field early 2017 and it is the world’s largest in this industry, the most advanced and most open test platform. With the 5G test field, China aims to integrate core strengths in the industry, and promote global 5G standardization and industry development.
As a core member of China's IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, ZTE has taken the initiative in undertaking a number of key technical research and product development tasks, and leads the promotion of research and standardization for a number of key 5G technologies. Following the completion of the first phase of China's 5G technology R&D test, ZTE is now fully engaged in the second-phase tests. Using the latest IT baseband unit (BBU), 5G multi-band active antenna unit (AAU), and new NR air interface technologies, ZTE launched the field performance test to meet the key performance requirements in seven typical application scenarios, such as higher spectral efficiency, greater connection density, higher reliability, and lower delay of air interfaces. This test further promotes the commercialization of 5G products, and facilitates the technical verification of the solution prior to large-scale commercial use of 5G, laying a solid foundation for the commercial availability of 5G in China in 2020.
