Pakistani internet and international connectivity provider Transworld Associates (TWA), a joint venture of Orascom Telecom, Saif Group and Omzest Group of Oman, has contracted Huawei Marine to upgrade its 1,300 submarine cable system, TW1 that connects Pakistan, United Arab Emirates and Oman.

According to Huawei Marine, the 100G upgrade will combine submarine and terrestrial systems into a unified network and increase the original system design capacity by six times by using its advanced WDM/OTN product OSN 8800/9800. ""This will greatly enhance the operational and management capabilities of the TW1 system, while substantially lower operating expenses,"" Huawei says,

Naveed Malik, Vice President of TWA, said: ""The flexible upgrade solution delivered by Huawei Marine will provide options for us to upgrade to 400G or 1 Terabit in the future, which will allow greater flexibility, while enabling us to maintain our quality and reliability commitments to customers.""

TE Subcom to upgrade SJC cable
TE SubCom has signed a contract to perform its third network upgrade to the 8,986 km South-East Asia Japan Cable (SJC) System that links Brunei, mainland China, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and the Philippines. The company will use its 100Gbps coherent transmission technology to increase the capacity by 6.3Tbps. The upgrade is due to be completed by the end of June 2016.

The SJC consortium is composed of Brunei International Gateway Sendirian, China Mobile International, China Telecom, China Telecom Global, Donghwa Telecom (a subsidiary of Chunghwa Telecom), Globe Telecom, Google, KDDI, Singtel, Telin (a subsidiary of Telekom Indonesia), and TOT of Thailand.
