Vietnam is getting ready to auction off the 700 MHz spectrum for mobile use. This spectrum, which is capable of supporting 5G technology, became available after Vietnam made the switch from analog to digital TV.

The Authority of Radio Frequency Management (RFD) will allow operators to utilize these frequencies for both 4G and 5G services. The decision to allocate this spectrum for mobile use was made in December 2019 when the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) released Circular No. 19/2019/TT BTTTT.

This circular outlined the plans to use the airwaves between 694-806 MHz for mobile services and became effective on February 16, 2020. It is uncertain whether there will be any bidders for this spectrum, as earlier this year, the auction for the 2300 MHz spectrum licenses did not attract any buyers.
