Nokia will deploy its state-of-the-art, modular Interleaved Passive Active Antenna (IPAA+) to accelerate Globe Telecom’s 5G expansion across the southern islands in the Philippines.
Nokia’s advanced IPAA features a modular design that can support all 5G frequency bands in a single compact antenna, including the 2.6 GHz spectrum band and other bands as well. This will simplify Globe’s 4G and 5G expansion while maintaining a high level of network efficiency and performance.
Joel Agustin, SVP and head of network planning and engineering at Globe Telecom, Inc., expressed enthusiasm for this project, saying: “We are thrilled that Nokia’s state-of-the-art products will be deployed in the Philippines. Our enduring pain points in site acquisition and TCO efficiency are being addressed by the features and design of the IPAA+. Simplifying the rollout of 4G and 5G services will greatly improve our customer experience, especially in the southern region of the Philippines.”
Nokia’s IPAA+ also addresses the difficulty for telcos to look for additional space on towers and rooftops when adding 5G antennas. Its size and weight allow service providers to deploy their 5G networks through a simple antenna swap.

Nokia and Globe have successfully tested a Globe Telecom-specific variant of the 2.6 GHz IPAA+ in Tantangan, South Cotabato, Mindanao, making Globe the first operator in the world to have a successful trial of this technology.
