NTT DOCOMO, INC. has agreed to transfer the ownership of an additional 1,552 telecommunications towers to JTOWER Inc. for ¥17 billion ($113 million). DOCOMO will now lease these towers from JTOWER.

Both companies had an initial agreement back in March 2022 that allowed the transfer of 6,002 DOCOMO telecommunication towers to JTOWER. This partnership aims to strengthen network construction skills, broaden the range of uses for these towers and develop a more complete infrastructure-sharing framework.

JTOWER's growth strategy includes the acquisition of telecommunications towers and the expansion of infrastructure sharing. This deal strengthens its position as a tower-sharing operator, adding to a stable commercial foundation. Meanwhile, DOCOMO is actively pushing the creation of a resilient 5G network by promoting infrastructure sharing. This arrangement simplifies its network operations even further, consistent with its overall goals.

The transfer of the initially agreed-upon 6,002 telecommunication towers is going well, with approximately 2,400 towers already completed by the end of June 2023. Other network providers were also encouraged to make use of these.

In the future, both JTOWER and DOCOMO commit to accelerating the transfer of tower ownership, subject to strict standards, in order to speed infrastructure sharing. These initiatives are aimed at achieving more effective capital investments, lowering operational expenses for tower tenants and speeding up the rollout of 5G networks.
