Rakuten Mobile, Inc. revealed that its mobile carrier service has exceeded 6.5 million subscribers as of April 8, 2024, marking the company’s fourth anniversary since its launch.
Since officially launching its mobile carrier service in April 2020, Rakuten Mobile has remained committed to democratizing the mobile industry by providing an accessible and straightforward service plan. Additionally, it has expanded the coverage area of th Rakuten network by deploying base stations and establishing roaming agreements.
Rakuten Mobile has enhanced its offerings to attract a wider customer base, introducing the Saikyo Family Program in February 2024. This program grants family subscribers a monthly discount of 100 yen (110 yen including tax) on the Rakuten SAIKYO Plan. Additionally, the Saikyo Youth Program, launched in March 2024, provides Rakuten SAIKYO Plan subscribers aged 22 and under with 110 Rakuten Points every month as a reward.
"The two programs combined give eligible customers monthly service for an actual price as low as 780 yen per month (858 yen including tax)—the lowest currently available among all carriers in Japan—by subtracting the 100 yen discount from the Saikyo Family Program and applying the 110 point back reward from the Rakuten Youth Program to the monthly fee of 980 yen (1,078 yen including tax) for up to 3GB of data usage," stated the press release. "This competitive price point has found favor with customers across Japan."
In March 2023, Rakuten Mobile rebranded its business services as Rakuten SAIKYO Plan Business. Together with its Mobile Virtual Network Enabler (MVNE) service customers, the company now caters to more than 10,000 enterprise clients.
