Globe has announced the transformation of its network infrastructure, which includes shifting towards energy-efficient solutions and phasing-out outdated equipment, showcasing the company’s commitment to sustainability.
The company has successfully reduced its power consumption by around 3,808 MWh and reduced its carbon emission by 2,811 metric tons, equivalent to a year of exhaust emissions from 669 gas-powered vehicles.
Enhancing Operations
Globe has implemented several crucial solutions to enhance its operations, including the adoption of system-on-chip-based plug-in cards. This advanced solution has enabled the company to double the number of supported cells while simultaneously halving its energy consumption. By leveraging innovative technology, Globe has significantly improved its network efficiency, ensuring better coverage and reduced environmental impact.
The solution has also allowed Globe to expand its capacity for growth and improve its geographical reach, while decreasing its negative impact on the environment. This has also reduced the power consumption at its Visayas and Mindanao base stations.
As of December 2023, the use of these cards has resulted in a significant decrease in power usage of 231 MWh and a reduction of 173 metric tons of carbon dioxide.
Moreover, Globe has initiated a comprehensive program to replace outdated equipment and adopt more efficient and modern technology to mitigate the environmental impact linked to electronic waste. Through strategic measures such as frequency re-farming, equipment repurposing, and the gradual phase-out of obsolete solutions, the company has achieved substantial reductions in energy consumption and carbon emissions.
Reducing Energy Consumption
Specifically, these initiatives have led to a decrease in energy consumption by approximately 3,577 MWh and a reduction in carbon emissions by 2,638 metric tons. This demonstrates the company's commitment to sustainability and its proactive efforts to mitigate its environmental footprint while optimizing operational efficiency.
