Malaysian telecommunications company, Time dotCom (Time), and Huawei recently announced that they have successfully implemented Segment Routing IPv6 (SRv6) technology within Time's network. This move aims to give Time an advantage in the enterprise services market.
In simple terms, SRv6 allows routing instructions to be added directly into IPv6 through an extension header. This simplifies network architecture by reducing the need for multiple control planes and overlay technologies. It also improves scalability and enables advanced traffic engineering capabilities for better path selection, load balancing, and resource optimization.
For Time dotCom, SRv6 enables its network to intelligently manage and monitor service pathways in real-time. This ensures that important parameters such as bandwidth, latency, and packet loss meet strict service level agreements (SLAs).
Enhancing Network Performance
According to Time's Group CTO, TJ Ang, this capability will result in a superior service experience for enterprise customers. This includes consistent bandwidth, low latency for critical applications, and customized service packages to meet various quality and performance needs.
Zac Chow, VP of Huawei Malaysia's Carrier Network Business Group, mentioned that Time is the first Malaysian operator to implement SRv6. He believes this is a crucial step towards full network digitalization, automation, end-to-end programmability, and network-cloud integration.
