Qualcomm has recently introduced a new generation of its Snapdragon 855 processor, delivering much higher CPU and GPU clock speeds for heightened performance and unparalleled capabilities that would greatly appeal to AI and mobile gaming markets.

The Snapdragon 855 Plus is a sophisticated step up from its predecessor, offering users a Kryo 485 CPU Prime operating at a speed of up to 2.96GHz, as well as a 15% boost in performance graphics through the utilisation of its Adreno 640 GPU. These new and significant improvements are designed to upgrade the gaming experience for phones like the Nubia Red Magic and Razer Phone among others, much to the delight of die-hard mobile gamers.

“Snapdragon 855 Plus will raise the bar for elite gamers with the increase in CPU and GPU performance and elevate experiences for 5G, gaming, AI and XR, which is something our OEM customers look to us to deliver,” Kedar Kondap, Qualcomm's Vice President of Product Management said.

It’s worth noting that the Plus model still features the Snapdragon X24 LTE 4G modem and would need to be connected to a X50 5G modem to support 5G connectivity, just like the non-Plus.

However, the company has stated that they are in the midst of launching a new chip in 2020 that will incorporate this characteristic on the same chip.
