For China, the beginning of 2020 has been nothing short of a nightmare. The sudden outbreak of the coronavirus has caused Chinese citizens to be overcome with fear and uncertainty. The outbreak, which first occurred in Wuhan, China, has spread like wildfire across the country and has cost the lives of many.

Many Chinese cities such as Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Zhaoqing, among others, have joined forces to combat the crisis. The Shenzhen MicroMultiCopter (MMC) launched the UAV prevention solutions and invested in teams of more than 200 people to cater to the sick, with over 100 drones scattered across China’s major cities. The use of drones has greatly minimized the risk of staff becoming infected with the virus.

Aerial Broadcasting

Drones have now made it possible to carry out 360 degree patrols to observe the condition on land with 40x zoom cameras. People who are caught not wearing the masks are found and dispersed by the commanders through onboard megaphones. Daily broadcasting is currently being carried out throughout the country to reduce the risk of further infection.

Aerial Thermal Sensing

Some of the drones which have been deployed have thermal cameras built into them which automatically sense each individual who passes through the use of high accuracy infrared. This has been used in highly dense areas in order to ease onsite management and ensure greater efficiency in evacuation management as well.

Disinfectant Spraying

MMC drones have also played a huge role in spray disinfectant across public areas whether it be schools, courtyards or supermarkets. This measure is used to ensure that direct contact in places which require regular disinfection is completely avoided. Opting for a traditional method instead would prove too risky and increase the risk of the virus spreading.

Traffic Control

Since the beginning of the month, MMC teams have worked relentlessly with traffic police to monitor traffic. The MMC drones have offered commanders a great deal of help which has made way for more efficient decision making to make sure they figure out the best possible solutions as fast as they can.

In reference to the situation, a local traffic police officer commented, “Unlike previous years where we must drive to patrol and gather information, we can now discover everything using drones.”

Lu Zhihui, Chairman of MMC, stated, “At first, our drones are used only in aerial broadcasting, it goes deeper in front-line use since the situation is getting more serious, further functions are required so we quickly formed an online R&D team and carried out the solutions.”

According to Zhihui, MMC is absolutely committed to increasing the available level of automation in order to allow for people to carry out their work with greater safety, at a relatively lower cost, with the utmost efficiency.
