In an interview with Telecom Review Asia, William Fang, chief product officer of Huawei Cloud, talked about how they are upgrading Cloud Native 2.0 and how it continues to accelerate digital transformation for its customers.
“The goal of Cloud Native 2.0 is to better serve the digital and intelligent upgrade needs of the public and private sectors around the world while delivering efficiency, reliability and security to help enterprises expand the breadth and depth of their cloud usage. The main problem confronting this phase is how to become application-centric and enable industries to better use digital technology, create new value and move upwards in the value chain.”
These challenges are why Huawei Cloud continues to broaden its cloud infrastructure. And with more industries going digital to enable higher productivity and resilience, Fang explained the benefits of having their applications in a strong cloud infrastructure: “Most new applications are built based on the cloud native architecture. They are born on the cloud and grow on the cloud. This means it's easier for these applications to keep up with the latest technology. Legacy applications can also benefit from the cloud infrastructure in terms of cost effectiveness, on-demand resource acquisition, security assurance, and automatic O&M.”
To achieve these goals, Fang said that Huawei Cloud has positioned Cloud Native 2.0 as an overall strategy ever since it was rolled out in 2021, along with the Everything as a Service strategy, which combines Infrastructure as a Service, Technology as a Service and Expertise as a Service.

Huawei Cloud Rolls Out New Cloud Native Products
Following its objective to deliver full-stack cloud native capabilities to its customers, Huawei Cloud is doing a full-scale upgrade of its products. It unveiled the four pipelines and more than 10 products during the Huawei Connect event in Bangkok.
In terms of Technology as a Service, Huawei Cloud is offering four production lines, namely, DevCloud for software development, which is a one-stop, secure and trusted DevSecOps platform; DataArts for data governance, which can help enterprises address the three challenges faced by data intelligence, maximize the value of data and manage data according to their own needs; ModelArts for AI development, which enables developers and data scientists of any skill level to rapidly build, train and deploy models anywhere, from the cloud to the edge; and MetaStudio for digital content production.
Huawei Cloud's Expertise as a Service, meanwhile, helps enterprises quickly build and innovate SaaS to their various industry scenarios. Its MacroVerse aPaaS transforms its more than 30 years of digital transformation experience in various industries around the world into services that can be invoked from the cloud.
GoCloud and GrowCloud
Huawei’s Cloud Native 2.0 technology promises various opportunities and opens up a large market for its partner organizations. In Cloud Native 2.0, a wider array of services are deployed and run on the cloud, and there are a lot more independent software vendors who choose SaaS.
Cloud, Go Global will allow more cloud-based enterprises to achieve global business success.
As Fang stated, “An ecosystem is the basis for the sustainable development of Huawei Cloud. We always create, share and succeed together with our ecosystem partners. We strive to gather and enable global developers and partners to solve customers' pain points in digital transformation.”
Huawei Cloud places strong emphasis on partner capabilities. Therefore, it has rebuilt its partner network and upgraded its partner programs.
This new network includes two collaboration frameworks, GoCloud and GrowCloud.
The GoCloud framework aims to develop competency partners and help them build rich solutions and services on Huawei Cloud. With these solutions and services, they can create more value for their customers. Additionally, the GrowCloud framework is for helping Huawei Cloud’s partners expand their customer base and grow their sales; shared business success is what it aims to achieve.
Huawei Cloud Continues Expanding Its Reach
Huawei Cloud builds "one global network" to provide high-quality cloud services with consistent global experience. For example, in the Asia-Pacific region, Huawei Cloud has built local nodes in Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia since 2018. In Thailand, Huawei Cloud is the first public cloud vendor to build local nodes. Fang explained, “We set up 3-AZ data centers in Bangkok, Chonburi, and Samut Prakan and provide local websites and consulting services in Thai. We will launch the Indonesia and Ireland regions soon. By the end of this year, Huawei Cloud will deploy 29 regions and 75 AZs around the world, covering more than 170 countries and regions. Based on this global network, Huawei Cloud helps customers deliver services to users anywhere in the world within a latency of 50 ms.”
In 2021, the number of Huawei Cloud partners increased from 20,000 to 38,000 , the number of developers increased from 1.8 million to 3.02 million, and the number of products released by partners on the Huawei Cloud marketplace increased from 4,000 to over 7,400.
To help its customers and partners better understand the latest cloud native technologies and architectures, Huawei Cloud also released the Cloud Native 2.0 Architecture White Paper, which summarizes 10 typical architectures in Cloud Native 2.0.
