Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has been working on strengthening network connectivity by bringing 5G connectivity to all its underground metro stations.

Delhi Metro has a total of 69 underground stations. As of today, it has successfully upgraded 29 underground stations to 5G, while infrastructure work is in progress at the remaining 40 stations, including associated tunnels.

DMRC is collaborating with telecom service providers like Bharti Airtel, RIL’s Jio and Vodafone Idea or Vi to help install cables and other infrastructure to make the 5G network available. The 5G services will lead to uninterrupted, high-quality streaming and seamless connectivity for commuters. The underground network covers over 100 kilometers out of the total DMRC network of slightly over 390 kilometers.

The work of cable laying and the installation of equipment for 5G mobile connectivity at the underground stations is forecast to be completed within five months; work can only take place at night when passengers aren’t using the metro. This project will be another major milestone for the ongoing rollout of 5G throughout India.
