The National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) of the Philippines has announced that over 113 million SIM cards have been registered as of the end of July. This comes after a five-day extension and marks the conclusion of the SIM registration program.
According to data from the NTC, a total of 113.96 million SIM cards were registered, accounting for 67.83% of the 168.16 million subscribers as of December 2022. Among the telecom providers, Smart Communications and its value-focused mobile brand, TNT, had the highest rate of registrations. Out of their 66.3 million subscribers, 52.5 million signed up for the program. Globe Telecom registered more subscribers, with 53.7 million out of 86.7 million. Dito Telecommunity, the newest operator in the country, saw 7.7 million out of 14.9 million subscribers sign up. Smart Communications stated that their total figure represented 99% of active users.
The President and CEO of PLDT and Smart, Alfredo Panlilio, emphasized the importance of SIM registration in supporting the government's digitalization efforts and ensuring inclusive and accessible mobile and digital services for all.
In a separate statement, Darius Delgado, the head of consumer mobile business at Globe, highlighted their success in reaching the highest number of customers during the seven-month nationwide registration. With close to 54 million subscribers registered, Globe retained its position as the country's mobile leader.
