Bharti Airtel has successfully conducted testing of 5G services on both the 3300 MHz (C-band) and 26 GHz (mmWave - millimeter) bands in West Bengal.
The Department of Telecommunications’ West Bengal service area wing undertook the testing to check the minimum rollout obligations (MRO).
"Today, DoT WB LSA conducted service testing for 5G services of Bharti Airtel on both 3300 MHz and 26 GHz bands at Kharagpur, West Bengal. The data speeds observed during testing were 566 Mbps for 3300 MHz and 1 Gbps for 26 GHz," the department shared on Twitter.
Airtel was the first telco to launch 5G services in India and has been continuously expanding its 5G services across the country since last October.
Airtel 5G Plus is currently available in over 3500 towns and villages across the country. It has surpassed the ten million unique customer mark on its 5G network nationally.
According to the previous Ericsson Mobility Report, 5G subscriptions reached around 10 million by the end of 2022 and are estimated to account for about 57% of mobile subscriptions in the country by the end of 2028, making it the fastest-growing 5G region globally.
