Rakuten Symphony has announced the official launch of Rakuten Drive— a file storage cloud service— in Japan. Rakuten Drive offers secure and user-friendly file storage and sharing on the cloud for both individual and enterprise customers. It allows users to quickly send large files and now includes the feature of real-time viewing and editing of documents, spreadsheets, and presentations using Microsoft 365 productivity apps like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint on the web version.

The service has also been integrated with Rakuten ID— a shared ID for Rakuten members— making it convenient for the 100 million Rakuten members in Japan to access the service using their existing Rakuten ID.

Pioneering Endeavors: Past, Present and Future

Since its launch as Sendy in 2019, Rakuten Drive has gained popularity in Japan and worldwide. Its growth in Japan has been significant since becoming part of the Rakuten Group through the acquisition of Estmob— a South Korean file transfer solution provider— by Rakuten Mobile, Inc. in 2021. Estmob was renamed Rakuten Symphony Korea, Inc. in 2022 and is now a wholly owned subsidiary of Rakuten Symphony.

Rakuten Drive is operated by Rakuten Symphony Korea in the global market, while Rakuten Symphony handles sales and marketing activities for the service in Japan. Rakuten Drive prioritizes advanced data storage and information security policies and will continue to enhance its services and introduce new features for the B2B market, catering to freelancers, small businesses, and large enterprises.

There are also plans to integrate Rakuten Drive with Rakuten Points, the flagship loyalty program of Rakuten, to provide a convenient platform for earning and using points across the Rakuten Ecosystem and its partners in Japan. Apart from Rakuten Drive, Rakuten Symphony offers various cloud-based internet services, including email, messaging, chat, file transfer, storage, CPaaS, and SaaS, through its Internet Services business division. The company aims to continually enhance customer productivity and convenience through these services.

Ryan Son, CEO of Rakuten Symphony Korea, expressed excitement about introducing Rakuten Drive to consumers and businesses in Japan. The file storage cloud service aims to help users efficiently manage their personal and business files and data in a secure manner. Rakuten Symphony is committed to developing Rakuten Drive as a trusted and preferred cloud service for users ranging from freelancers and small business owners to large companies.
