Indian telecom operator, Bharti Airtel, announced that it has activated the newly-acquired spectrum in Rajasthan, aiming to enhance the performance of its 4G and 5G services in the region.
The company secured 97 MHz of spectrum across the 900 MHz, 1800 MHz, and 2100 MHz bands for INR 68.57 billion (USD 816.5 million) during India’s 5G spectrum auction in late June. This acquisition primarily involved renewing existing spectrum licenses, with an additional 5 MHz in the 1800 MHz band and 4 MHz in the 900 MHz band.

Improving 4G and 5G Quality
Marut Dilawari, CEO of Airtel’s Rajasthan Circle, indicated that the newly acquired spectrum has been deployed throughout Rajasthan, aiming to improve the quality of service for 4G and 5G voice and data in key cities including Jaipur, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Bikaner, Ajmer, Bhilwara, Alwar, Sikar, and Pali. He further noted that this integration is expected to enhance call connectivity, increase data speeds, and elevate performance overall for customers across the state.
Bharti Airtel noted that the additional spectrum extends its coverage along highways and rail routes, while also enhancing its presence in rural regions.
The deployment of additional spectrum coincides with Bharti Airtel’s ongoing spectrum refarming across the 1800, 2100, and 2300 MHz bands nationwide, aimed at expanding 5G services and assisting 4G users transitioning to 5G. The company stated that this refarmed spectrum will enhance browsing speeds and improve indoor coverage for 5G customers.
