ZTE, a leading Chinese global mobile device maker unveiled its ‘Gigabit Phone’ at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The company boasted that its device is the first smartphone in the world that has download speeds of up to 1Gbps.

President, of Strategy and Marketing at ZTE, Xu Ming said smartphones had changed the world since Apple introduced the iPhone in 2007, and said ZTE’s latest product has been specifically designed to improve customer experience. Ming said, “At ZTE, innovation is not just a slogan, we don’t want to produce another device – it has to be an experience for the customer and the Gigabit handset represents that.”

Zhang Jianguo, Senior Vice President of ZTE said the phone will change the way people will connect forever and expressed his delight at being able to officially announce the launch of the ZTE Gigabit handset which will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 mobile platform with an integrated Snapdragon X16 LTE modem.

ZTE’S Senior VP said,” We’re thrilled to introduce the world’s first smartphone with download speeds of up to 1Gbps, with this new device, the way people stay connected will be changed forever. This phone is not only revolutionizing communication, but also revolutionizing human connectivity with a new standard of speed, bringing a qualitative leap to a new world of mobile experience.”

Luo Wei, Vice President of ZTE, declared that ZTE’s technology strength in 5G and Pre5G Giga + MBB solutions – enables the ZTE Gigabit Phone to be three times as powerful at improving data processing capabilities in the current network. However, it was also revealed by the ZTE team, that the Gigabit Phone will not be available in a commercial capacity for another year or two.

Wei said, “Our Gigabit handset is only a prototype – it is on display at our booth at MWC, but it will not be commercialized for another year or two - but ZTE is focused on ‘continuous innovation’ and we will be striving to create new 5G technologies which will propel when we can make the Gigabit Phone commercially available.”
