The Penang State Government has partnered with Maxis to enhance the level of digital literacy through digital education and skills development among residents and students across the state.
The partnership builds upon Maxis’ ongoing commitment to fostering community development and digital adoption in the region. In 2023, Maxis signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Digital Penang to advance digital adoption among MSMEs in the state.
YB Jagdeep Singh Deo, Penang Deputy Chief Minister II and State Exco for Human Capital Development, Science and Technology, emphasized the significance of digital skills in advancing Penang's inclusive growth plan, as outlined in the Penang2030 vision.

“As part of this inclusive vision, we want to tap into opportunities in the digital economy and develop a digitally engaged society. In line with this, we look forward to working closely with Maxis on their flagship community programmes on digital marketing and after school learning,” he said.
Under the partnership, Maxis will provide digital marketing skills training to entrepreneurs and the youth in Penang through Maxis’ eKelas and eKelas Usahawan, a program that has effectively taught almost 7,000 entrepreneurs across the country since 2021. To date, more than 440 entrepreneurs in Penang have benefitted from this training.

Goh Seow Eng, CEO of Maxis, expressed appreciation for the partnership and the opportunity to expand the company’s eKelas Usahawan and eKelas programmes across the state.
“In line with our belief that ‘Tomorrow Begins Today,’ we can, together, develop future-ready entrepreneurs and youths who will be able to thrive in the digital economy of tomorrow,” Seow Eng added.
Maxis will continue to work closely with state education departments in Penang for the successful execution and promotion of educational initiatives in local schools. The goal is to enhance the learning experience and equip students with the necessary skills for the modern digital age.
