Telekom Malaysia (TM) and the Government of Malaysia have signed an agreement to develop and operate the country's new emergency response system: the Next Generation Emergency Services 999 (NG999).

This system will replace the current MERS999. The agreement was signed in the presence of Deputy Minister of Communications, YB Teo Nie Ching; by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Communications, Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Bin Md Isa; and TM One's Executive Vice President, Shazurawati Abd Karim.

TM's Group Chief Executive Officer, Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, was also present. NG999 is a comprehensive digital system that will improve the sharing of resources and data among emergency responders and central agencies. It will incorporate web-based digital maps, caller IDs, geolocation services, and mobile apps into one digital system to enhance emergency incident handling and reduce response times nationwide.

Amar Huzaimi Md Deris, TM's Group CEO, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with the Malaysian Government in upgrading the nation’s emergency services. He highlighted that NG999 aims to provide more efficient and faster emergency responses compared to MERS999.

TM's role will involve managing network and platform infrastructure, call management, and other support services to ensure continuous efficiency for the public and emergency responders. This initiative aligns with TM's commitment to Digital Malaysia and becoming a Digital Powerhouse by 2030.

The implementation of NG999 follows international best practices such as the European Emergency Number Association's NG112 and the National Emergency Number Association's NG911 in North America. Advanced technologies like data analytics and AI will be employed to enhance emergency responses.

TM will introduce a new mobile app for NG999 to facilitate communication through text, photos, and videos for registered users, improving interactions between callers and emergency responders for more effective tactical deployment.
